Maintenance of a LM32 it self, not the engine.

Dear LM Owners,

I am Josef from Bavaria, Germany.

I bought a wonderful LM 32 two years ago.

What I miss is a maintenance manual for the boat.

Is there such a thing? If not, can anybody tell me,

what are the parts and where must I oil and grease?

Are there grease nipple to press the grease into the lubricating point?

At the rudder I can"t find a grease nipple. How can I grease the rotating

parts of the rudder?

Or what is the best way to oil  the Bowden cable of the throttle controls

to the engine?

Well, I am in the same situation as to where to lubricate the rudder bearings on my LM28 and have assumed ( up until now)these are water lubricated at the lower end of rudder tube but not sure about the top. As to the Bowden cables, you can grease the push / pull rods which connect the cables to the gearbox, throttle and the steering. (My LM28 has a Bowden cable for the steering however I am sure the 32 has either a chain system or may even be hydraulic. Going back to the Bowden cables, these usually are lubricated for life although I have on another boat removed the steering cable and withdrawn the spiral inner cable to re-grease.

Other tasks would be.
Check mast support on the hull for compression.
Check and grease all seacocks including cockpit drains.
Ensure hose clips on all seacocks are tight and should be doubled
Check underwater rudder bearing
Check Anode on Propellor
Check keel bolts for corrosion
Renew flexible gas line if more than 5 years old / get checked by gas engineer
Lubricate where possible pulley wheels on mast and booms

There is no manual for the LM, but any engine would have a manual you could download online. Any of the cables should be lubricated if they don't have fittings. At the very least disconnect them and let oil drip down into the housing. Any sheaves that you can access should get a squirt of light oil and or a hole drilled in the sheave so the axle can be lubricated. The steering cable on my boat is a push-pull, and I lubricate the ends and all moving parts in the steering disconnect mechanism at the rudder shaft. You could drop the rudder and add grease fittings at the shaft bearings.

On the electrical side disconnect all batteries then clean and use dielectric grease on all the main connections especially at the starter and the engine block. Hidden corrosion here can cause major electrical failures.

There is a book called This Old Boat by Don Casey that is full of hints of how to keep this age of boat in good condition. Best of luck with your new old boat.

It is also helpful to know there is no instruction
for the LM32 itself. That"s save time for searching.
And the other items are helpful to maintanance my
LM32.
