We are planning to take Marguerite to Holland for the first time this summer. The outline timetable is that I and a passage crew will bring the boat across the North Sea, arriving at Vlissingen on Monday 22 July; Jessie will come out by ferry to The Hook of Holland on Friday 27 July and the passage crew will return to the UK; Jessie and I will then cruise the inland waters of the Netherlands until Friday 9 August when Jessie will return from The Hook and another passage crew will come out for the trip back to Harwich.
We would welcome advice from any other member who has done a similar trip, and of course from Jutter whose home waters these are. In particular: * Where should we moor Marguerite when we are going to The Hook to collect crew? * How long should I and the passage crew allow for a relaxed trip from Vlissingen or Middelburg to The Hook? * Where might Jessie and I go for an enjoyable, slow and undemanding 2-week tour, starting and finishing at The Hook? * Are there any particular pit-falls of which we should be aware?
And of course it would be very good if we could meet up with Jutter at some stage of this trip, though this will be completely dependent on his other plans.
What a good idea. I am back from my annual holyday then so I can meet you somewhere in my backyard waters.
To travel from Vlissingen to Hoek van Holland you can take the train. Station is in walk distance from the innerharbour in Vlissingen, take a visiters berth in Jachthaven De Schelde vvwschelde.nl/ and plan your traintrip here www.ns.nl/reisplanner-v2/index.shtml
See attachment, its a google chrome webpage, from the train planner. Hope you have some time so sail arround in the area and I hope I find some time to sail up with you besides my job.
And it was lovely that you did so Jan. Thank you very much for taking the trouble to come and see us and for the presents you brought - greatly enjoyed at breakfast the following morning. Thank you too for the advice you gave us both before the trip and during our meeting. I particularly like the automated voice of the weather forecaster on Channel 23. We sailed to Goes the next day and are now in Bergen op Zoom.
I hope that you have much more good sailing this summer.
