Hi When I lifted out my LM27 I noticed that the castellated nut on the propeller shaft was very loose and the castellations appeared to have corroded. The shaft and propeller are fitted for a woodruff key and this was intact. Can anyone advise if the nut should be torqued as it seem to go too far onto the shaft making the hole for the split pin ineffective. I am also thinking a washer might help or should a new nut do the job. Thanks in advance Allan
On every boat I have owned over the last 60 years, every one had a split pin through the castellated nut. I think your idea of using a washer to move the nut to a more suitable position is a sound one. Perhaps sourcing a new nut would be worth doing.
You could use Nordlock washers , 2 required. These are fitted to my Featherstream prop, the nut has no castellations and relies on the grip of the washers rather than a split pin. They are available from Darglow and you will find them on the SHOP page.
Regards
Mick
