I am considering fitting a bow thruster to my LM 27 and would be grateful to have advice from other owners who have done this, particularly regarding which unit to choose and relative merits and any recommended installers in the Kent area or advice re a diy installation . Thanks Richard Carvell
I have fitted a Side Power thruster to my LM27 and I must say it has transformed the boat; there are details on the forum elsewhere. I did not have a second battery, the unit works from the engine battery as you would only want to use the thruster under power. It sits neatly in the bow locker under the bunk. The cables , however are VERY thick!
The unit was fitted professionally as I was a bit apprehensive about cutting a very large hole in the bow. It's expensive but If you intend to keep the boat it's a must have in my opinion.
There is no effect on the normal performance of the boat under sail. My boat can now be manoeuvered perfectly in close quarters and can easily be steered in astern. I now don't know how I managed without it.
