Does anyone have a photo or drawing of the flip-over gate that connects the two arms on the tiller shaft. Mine is missing and I have had to lash the two together - not a great solution!
thats perfect, many thanks, I found that bracket in bits in the bilge - the two sides had come apart. Your photos are excellant and I can see how it is used - I imagine you just disconnect when using the tiller. Best wishes Bill
I imagine you just disconnect when using the tiller.
Exactly so.
(You don't have to disconnect it to use the tiller, but while it's connected you're dragging the wheel back and forth while steering = more effort / less sensitivity.)
Being lazy we leave the gate connected all the time except when: - the tiller pilot is engaged, since disconnecting greatly reduces the load on the tiller and therefore extends battery life; or - the nearest and dearest is asleep in the driver's seat, so life is better if the wheel is not turning all the time, apparently of its own volition.
