This might be a case of teaching Grandma to suck eggs but here goes! When we bought Flipsam (LM30) the air feed pipe to the engine box was completely flattened, probably due to gear sliding into it or, more likely engineer's feet crushing it when working on the saildrive! Replacing the 125mm pipe, we slid half a metre of domestic soil pipe (110mm) down next to the rudder post so, hopefully, we won't have the problem again.
I bought Lone Star LM30 last summer and also was concerned about the use of what looks like fragile expanding tumble drier hose acting as a duct for the exhaust water injection pipes where they exit from the bottom aft of the engine compartment. This compartment is supposed to be waterproof but any hole in the fragile duct would allow water into the engine compartment so I am considering replacing it with something stronger. I'll be down at the boat next week and will take some pictures and look at the air intake also.
