I have seen the post about crossing the atlantic by the way. Some good points of course, but maybe I can make it west across the north sea or south over to Denmark?
A crossing with a LM 27 last year: Dep Portland UK 1030 Fri 21 Apr 2023, Arr Arklow Ire 2230 23 Apr 2023, i.e. 60 hrs. Distance 320 miles avg 5.3 kts. Crew 3, new Beta 25 hp diesel consumed 1.75 ltrs/hr @ 22k RPM. Dep with full 120 ltr fuel tank + 3 X 22 Ltr cans. Wind between force 3 and 5 mostly westerly crossing Celtic Sea - max gusts 21.5 kts on the beam. The boat handled very well, despite some slamming for a few hours for the crew then in fwd bunk - he took some cushions to the cockpit & slept soundly again! Max speed 7.5 kts on a beam reach, and down to 2.8 when slamming against the head. A new Raymarine ST2000+ was fitted prior to dep, but it failed after 48 hrs.
Thanks for the report, malduan. It's nice to hear on the forum of trips and adventures that people have in their LMs.
That's a serious crossing. I'm glad to hear the LM27 performed well, despite a period of slamming. Did it increase your confidence in the boat?
Is Arklow where your boat is now based?
I'm finding the LM27 a big improvement on the Colvic 23 it replaced, as a sailer & in every other way. I'm mostly solo & now in my 70's, so I'm finding the longer LM27 trips must less tiring. I'm based in Dublin from where I've been cruising north to Mull, south to Kerry, & east to Wales & Isle of Man. By the way, Raymarine replaced the ST2000 expeditiously under warranty, & in plenty of time for a May trip to the Clyde.
