Good evening,
I am brand new to the forum, having only bought Nordlys, an LM32, in October. So please forgive me if this is an oft-asked question!
One of my early tasks is to replace the speed and depth transducers. The existing depth transducer is under the floor in line with the heads. The cable then disappears into the internal moulding, and appears in the instrument console in the wheelhouse. Not unusual in a boat with internal moulding, but as my last yacht was a Rival 32 (no mouldings) it is a bit of a conceptual shift to work out what goes where! I have no idea how the cable is routed, but as the depth instrument was pretty ancient, it may well be the original. Can anyone give me a starter for 10?
Hi alistair I have just replaced most of my instruments on my Lm 28 I think routing is similar I pulled in new cables using old cables I had to remove wood panel in hanging locker and wood panels under instruments to gain access to cables , I left in old depth transducer and cable as it talks same language as my new instrument , just plug in and working good hope this helps , would send photos but haven't worked out how to do this yet digger.

Thanks Digger - I was hoping not to have to do too much removal..! I have a horror of pulling the new cable through, only to have the old one snap (I've done a fair bit of rewiring in the past). Separate question -does your 28 accumulate water in odd parts of the internal moulding? There don't seem to be sufficient (any) limber holes in my boat.
Hi alistair I am still learning about boat only got boat this year , I will check if my boat has travel holes under floor , I think I have a slight water ingress in hanging locker and I suspect it is coming from Genoa main sheet traveler fixing screws through the deck will need to sort out , this is a great site for info and where to go for parts etc. Digger.
I'm doing a similar job on my LM30 and would presume that the cable routing is the same. So far with instrument panel off all the cabling disappears down the starboard side of the instrument panel to the switch panel underneath the chart table. The log and echo sounder ( not originals ) transducer cables appear to come up this way from forward somewhere along with lighting cables etc. My suspicion is they go underneath the base of the starboard bunk but of course if they were replacements for the originals the cabling run could of course be different.
Not too sure about the limber holes so l'll have a look when l'm next at the boat.

Quick update - for reference of future users. The cable runs on my LM32 seem to go down under the starboard bunk, and then disappear into the switch panel. Had the emotional moment of drilling two 50mm holes in the hull for the new transducers today! Anyway, all done.

Thanks.
In my LM 30 the depth gauge is under the floor outside the heads and the cable runs in the bilges beneath the flooring. The speed log is also under the flooring and the two cables then go through the bulkhead and up into the space behind the switch panel. There are adequate limber holes but usually so little water that I have to use a sponge to mop up an egg cup full of moisture.
