Hi All, I have recently uprated my automatic bilge pump which is fitted in the engine sump. I installed a RuleMate 2000 which is mounted on a piece of plywood screwed to the end of the engine bed and dangles about 4 inches into the sump just like my old pump. This pump is the latest Rule Mate and has no float switch. The water level is sensed electronically.
All was well in May when I installed it but in August it began to play up. It keeps on running when there is no water to pump and does this for anything up to 90secs after a period of 2minutes 30 seconds. After a lot of investigation and You Tube tutorials I now find that you have to keep the thing clean and wash off the crud in order for it to work properly! It's a BILGE PUMP! It's only been there for 3 months! I don't want to be polishing it up 4 times year! What is wrong with a good old fashioned float switch! I never touched my last bilge pump from one year to the next. Tomorrow I will be spending another £25 on a float switch. Vorsprung durch technic? I don't think so, not in this instance.
