I see that Precious Marine have a Scanyacht 290 (an LM 27 derivative) for sale at Woolverstone in Suffolk. From the outside it looks immaculate, but at £45,950...! Incidentally, the way that Scanyacht configured the prow with a short bowsprit and a dolphin striker seems to have addressed the issue of how well the forestay is secured, the subject of some recent discussion on this web site.
The scanyacht 290 was built just around the corner from where I live in a small yard that previously built the Trident series of Yachts. Altogether they built just 6 scanyachts before they went bust and I went to see number 5 under construction. They certainly are built to a high standard but like yourself I always thought the price was too high, they were asking £75k at the time!
They changed the deck moulding slightly providing an extra 3 inches of height in the cockpit so that most people could see above the canopy and could see better ahead when seated. There was also a deeper keel option. The toilet is much nicer and they provided a hatch on each side of the wheelhouse.
At the time the moulds were still owned by Scanyachts (UK) and were in the yard. Scanyachts(UK) have now ceased trading and I do not know what happened to the moulds. Maybe they are still around and more LM27 clones could be built one day?

Mick

I can't remember whether I've already posted this on another thread, but here's a scan of a brochure for it: Scanyacht 290 pdf.pdf (228.26 KB)
Among the interesting differences from the LM27 are -
- self-draining cockpit (another advantage to the higher cockpit sole Mick mentions, though I suspect there are downsides, too)
- very slightly greater ballast weight in the shallow draft (i.e. same as LM27) option, and significantly less ballast weight than the LM27 in the deep keel version, but overall lighter weight for the whole boat in both version (where did they save weight?) giving greater ballast ratio in both cases;
- significantly larger rig giving a near 25% increase in plain sail area (though I recall reading somewhere else that not all Scanyacht 290s had the larger rig)
- larger (double) berth on starboard side of the saloon, with smaller (non-berth?) seat on the other
- an option of a double seat wheelhouse version with the galley in the saloon
- wheelhouse doors and anchor windlass appear standard.
It seems an interesting attempt to broaden the appeal of the LM27 concept, but the later generation LM28 (and its 26 & 30 peers) seems a much more successful development, practically (but obviously required a massively greater investment to achieve).
