LM27 boarding ladder

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can source a proper LM27 boarding ladder that attaches at the top and bottom. At present I have a horrible Plastimo ladder that is intended for a flat transom but on the canoe stern of course the legs tend to splay outwards under load.

I'm fairly sure there was an earlier thread on the forum about boarding ladders, from someone whose original ladder had been damaged. That poster received various suggestions for alternatives, but eventually ordered a replacement standard one from the original suppliers in Denmark: It was by no means cheap (£600+ IIRC), but better than having to deal with redundant holes in the hull and a less elegant solution.

If you can rummage around and find it, s/he may have mentioned the supplier.

You can buy very fine ladders, bathing platforms and front platforms at the swedish firm Båtsystem.

Hi Jan,

Yes, I have been in touch with Batsystem and have ordered a new ladder which should arrive on Tuesday. It does not seem to be possible to obtain a true copy of the original ladder which fits the canoe stern and attaches at 4 points but I have ordered a close alternative which will have to fix via shaped hardwood blocks to fit the curves.

and I guess you will be happy with the new one, which is far better as a rescue ladder with its fold-down steps below water surface. The original is only a after-swim-in-warm-water-ladder. If cold and wearing lots of wet clothes noone is able to climb the original

Hi Jan,
I have taken delivery of the ladder a BUT 55F and have fitted it today see pic:




The ladder comes with adjustable extension pieces to the lower legs,necessary for the canoe stern of the LM27 and as you can see the lower legs can be rotated in order to align the fixing shoes with the shape of the hull. It required only 2 small wooden wedge shaped blocks at the top and as you can see it's a really good alternative to the original LM ladder. The sliding extension just visible at the top slides downward to provide a step below the waterline and thus is easy to use and I agree with Jan that it's much better as a rescue ladder
The ladder was delivered by UPS and paid for by international transfer direct to Batsystem.

Hi Colmorn and welcome to LM Owners,

I installed the ladder myself so I cannot comment on the installation cost. Apart from screws, nylock nuts and penny washers the only other items required were 2 hardwood blocks for attaching the upper fixing points which you can just make out on the picture( Sorry, but as a guest you won't be able to see a larger picture). These are wedge shaped to fit the shape of the canoe stern but this is not very difficult. You will easily determine what is required when you receive the ladder The lower attachment points required no special fitments as the legs provided can be rotated and the feet brought to the correct angle to fit the hull. You need to shorten the length of these legs to suit and you have the opportunity here to adjust the angle of the ladder to make it easier to use (unlike the original LM ladder).

I fitted the ladder whilst afloat, you can suspend the ladder into almost the correct position using rope around the pushpit. if you can bring the stern of the boat into a corner of a pontoon then all fixing can be achieved from the dockside. It might even be possible to do the job from a dinghy as long as the ladder is suspended from the boat by rope.

If you are doing this job on your own - and it is perfectly possible - then you will need a pair of locking grips in order to hold the nut whilst you tighten the screw from the other side of the hull.

I would imagine that, if carried out professionally, the job would require about 1-2 man hours, however, they may insist that the boat be taken ashore and this would put up the cost significantly.

Hi, link does not work and I wonder what height you placed the platform?  Seems different compared to the osculati example on the kroation LM
